The Sheriff’s Office has received several reports this morning from Tuolumne County residents regarding phone calls from a man acting under pretense of a Sergeant McCloud or Sergeant McGuire form the Sheriff’s Office. He notifies the caller that they failed to appear in court for a jury summons and a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The man then fishes for personal information from his unsuspecting victim and in one case did have the address and birthdate information of one resident. Phone numbers associated with this call are 209-213-3401 and 209-213-1890. On call back to this number, a voice message of a man identifying himself as a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office, references a court matter and asks the caller to leave a message.
THIS IS A SCAM!
Do not give anyone your personal information. If by chance you failed to report for your jury summons, another summons would be issued and warrants are sent by mail. If the caller seems to have your identifying information, hang up and do not engage with them further. If you receive a call regarding a warrant or received something in the mail, call the Tuolumne Superior Court to verify that it is an official documents.
