The Superior Court of California, County of Solano, is pleased to announce that it is opening a full service children’s waiting room in the Hall of Justice on March 16, 2015. Pursuant to Government Code 70640, Courts are encouraged to provide these waiting rooms. The code provides that a portion of civil filing fees be set aside to provide the necessary funding.
A children’s waiting room is a separate room specifically dedicated to children in a courthouse and serves children whose parents have to appear at hearings or take care of other court business. The current waiting room, housed in the CASA offices, serves children in juvenile dependency cases only.
The new room, located in room 345 on the third floor of the Hall of Justice, will serve children at court for all other reasons and will be staffed by CASA staff and volunteers. The room is open Monday- Thursday from 8:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. and will serve up to 12 children at a time. The room is not open on Fridays. Children must be between ages 2 and 14 and must be potty trained. Information pertaining to individuals who use the waiting room is confidential.
