I (Kim Pedersen) am pleased to announce that Judge Michael G. Bowman was elected by the Judges of the Sacramento Superior Court as the next Assistant Presiding Judge. Judge Bowman’s term will commence on January 1, 2020 and will continue through December 31, 2021.
Governor Jerry Brown appointed Judge Bowman to the Sacramento Superior Court on December 27, 2013. During his tenure on the bench, his primary assignment has been in various criminal home courts at the Lorenzo Patiño Hall of Justice, Sacramento County Main Jail. Prior assignments include general civil and criminal trials and traffic, small claims and unlawful detainer proceedings held at the Carol Miller Justice Center. Judge Bowman is currently the Supervising Judge of the Criminal Division and serves as Chair to the Criminal Law Committee and member to the Court’s Executive Committee and Security Committee.
Prior to Judge Bowman’s appointment to the bench, he prosecuted criminal cases as a Deputy District Attorney for the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for three years, served as a partner for four years with Lewis and Bowman and then ran a private criminal defense practice for 18 years, ranging from DUIs to death penalty cases.
Judge Bowman received his Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law and obtained his undergraduate degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Following his selection as the next Assistant Presiding Judge, Judge Bowman stated, “I look forward to serving the Sacramento Superior Court as Assistant Presiding Judge and am excited to assist Judge Hom, our new Presiding Judge in the administration of justice.”
