Most of us are exhausted by the time Christmas Eve rolls around. I remember many times thinking, “Ok, I think I’m all done,” only to realize I completely forgot about Christmas morning breakfast. Here’s a few ideas for a no-fuss Christmas morning buffet that’s sure to make everybody happy, including you!
Yogurt Bar – Set out cups of your favorite flavors of yogurt, fresh fruit (bananas and grapes work well since they don’t have to be sliced), raisins or dried fruits, and bowls or containers of granola, cereal, nuts, etc. Make it even easier by putting out assorted protein or granola bars.
Pastry Buffet – Perfect for those who love sweets with their coffee in the morning! An assortment of croissants with butter and jam, bagels and cream cheese, donuts, cinnamon rolls, muffins, banana bread, or other pastries. Add some fruit and there you go – – easy peasy!
Breakfast Burrito Bar – This one requires a little more planning and prep, but is delicious and totally worth it! On Christmas morning, heat up some flour tortillas and put in a covered container to keep warm. The following ingredients can be made the night before and warmed up in the microwave in the morning: protein(s) of your choice (bacon, sausage, ham, black beans, etc.), scrambled eggs (do a wet cook the night before and finish in the microwave in the morning so they are fully cooked and hot). Add bowls of shredded cheese, salsa, chile peppers, avocados, etc., for everyone to customize their own burrito.
Hot Oatmeal/Cereal Bar – Use your crockpot for this one! Make a batch of your family’s favorite, whether it be oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc. Set out assorted toppings to go with it (butter, cream, sugar/brown sugar, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, fruit/dried fruit, maple syrup, nuts, granola).
Protein Bar – Hard-boiled eggs, sliced cheeses, sliced or smoked meats (ham, turkey, roast beef, salmon), peanut butter, fruit, etc. Add some juices, protein shakes/drinks for an extra boost!
Of course, if you have the time, there’s always make-ahead breakfast casseroles and overnight dishes that can be put in the oven on Christmas morning (see yummy recipe below!). But if you need something quick, easy, and delicious that makes you look like Martha Stewart when you feel like Lucy Ricardo, then give one of these breakfast bar/buffet ideas a try!
