May is National Scrapbooking Month

If you love taking photographs of your family, significant celebrations and holidays, then you just may enjoy Scrapbooking!  Scrapbooking can take many formats.  For some, it is a digital album on a website such as Shutterfly or My Family Album.  My Family Album can be shared with others which allows loved ones to see children growing up and the celebrations they may not have been able to attend.  For others, it involves printing photos and slipping them into the sleeves of an album.  Hopefully, you save one of those sleeves for a little description of what the photos depict.  And then there are others who create photo albums that are actually works of art.  The photos are printed and matted on colorful papers, and perhaps embellished with flowers, lettering and stickers.  Ideally, there will be some journaling on the page.

For those who have not thought about doing something with all those photos on your computer, phone or tablet, you might wonder why scrapbooking enthusiasts take the time to do this.  It’s like writing your memoirs – but the story is told with pictures.  There are two things you may want to consider if you do put together some form of an album.  First, one day you may not be here to embellish on the stories reflected in the pictures.  Your family will wonder who some of these friends and family members are.  One may also want to consider that photos of you will become priceless treasures one day.  If you love to be behind the camera, try to allow some photos of you to be captured in the story.
