The Los Angeles Superior Court’s (LASC’s) BenchView and Justice Partner Portal projects have been named 2018 National Association of Counties (NACo) award winners in the category of Information Technology. LASC continues to win national acclaim for innovation and efficiency, adding to the 10 awards received from the National Association of Counties (NACo) over the past six years.
BenchView was developed in-house to complement LASC’s new case information systems. It improves the efficiency of courtroom operations by supporting paperless proceedings on the bench. BenchView enables judicial officers to conduct courtroom business and access case information, documents and legal reference materials in one easy to use, web-based application.
The Justice Partner Portal (JPP) contributes to the efficiency of the entire countywide justice system by making case data available electronically to authorized agencies. The portal is in production in the areas of juvenile dependency, family law and probate. Agencies with access include the California Appellate Project, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and the Department of Children and Family Services. The Los Angeles County District Attorney and Sheriff’s Department will have access when LASC opens the portal for criminal, traffic and mental health cases in the near future. Through the JPP, agency personnel can instantly access case data without a trip to the courthouse to retrieve paper documents.
According to Presiding Judge Daniel J. Buckley, “These projects are just two of dozens of innovations we are making that use automation and technology to increase efficiency, so that we have more resources which we can direct toward serving the public.”
“These awards recognize LASC’s ongoing commitment to modernize operational and administrative processes, furthering the Court’s mission to provide equal access to justice through the fair, timely and efficient resolution of cases,” according to Court Executive Officer and Clerk of Court Sherri R. Carter.

Recipients of NACo’s Achievement Awards are selected from a nationwide pool of submissions in 18 categories.
Awards will be presented at NACo’s 2018 Annual Conference and Exposition on July 15, 2018, in Davidson County (Nashville), Tennessee.
