The second Saturday in October is recognized by some as I Love Yarn Day! Hey! I’ll take it! As an avid crocheter, I will use any excuse to spend the afternoon making something as a gift, or a scarf for me to wear! It turns out, there’s more to knitting and crocheting than you might think.
If you’ve never tried knitting or crocheting, I highly recommend that you find someone to teach you. These crafts allow you to create beautiful, unique items, which gives you a sense of satisfaction. It also creates a sense of calm, much like meditation. Mindful activities can give you greater focus. The rhythmic motions of yarn crafts can release serotonin, which is a natural analgesic and antidepressant associated with feeling happy.
Knitting and crocheting can combat anxiety, relieve stress, reduce insomnia, build self-esteem, and decreases the risk of Alzheimer’s. It can also lower your heart rate and blood pressure.
